About

I'm Not Harriet Vane, an archivist and historian. While I prefer to remain shrouded in mystery for now, I want to issue a disclaimer about the intentions and purpose of this blog.

While the posts here may seem like reviews or even critical essays, they are adamantly not! Reviews and criticism are settled opinions. These are explorations, places for me to experiment with ideas about books, and have them documented for my own reference so that I can see how they evolve over time. I will not star books or assign them numerical scores.... but I may make ranked lists or groupings of them if the mood strikes.

I mostly read mysteries, but sometimes I dip in other genres. My favorite authors are Dorothy Sayers (obviously), Agatha Christie, and Elly Griffiths. I like long series more than stand-alone books. I love to think about place and characterization.
